INTRODUCTION: Hello, I'm Lobster X, and welcome to the Broke 'N' Hip. This is Granbury, TX's premier underground publication that gives a platform for local artists and musicians to come together in an open forum and give light to current projects, past experiences and future developments. It is my intention that, although this is a very "punk" format, we may all benefit from a positive spin on moving forward within a rural town. Granbury is located roughly 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth, Texas and is currently experiencing economic growth in a diversified way. It is a retirement community, a city that focuses on tourism and a county that has seen a rise of personal income based on the oil and natural gas industries. Hood County claims to have the most number of millionaires per capita than any other county in Texas. However, there seems to be a demographic gap in the 17 to 35-year-olds focused on lifestyle enrichment within the area. Therefore, the mission of this publication is to build the recognition and reinforcement of the existing few within the community to retain youth and support art, music and alternative lifestyles. ABOUT THE PUBLICATION: The Broke 'N' Hip is distributed throughout the City of Granbury and its immediate area. We currently produce 200 to 250 issues every month, focusing on locations that promote art, music and entertainment. We create a new issue every first Friday of the month to insure that promotion of that month's events are printed and distributed accordingly. The deadline for submission follows three guidelines: 1. to submit anything, you must be a current resident of Hood County, TX, or within the immediate area, 2. Deadlines for submission are always the last Monday of the month, and 3. Only positive submissions will be published (no slandering of individuals or business are permitted). GOAL: It is my goal to create an open forum and platform for anyone to openly discuss many issues within Hood County, TX, especially anything that is related to the retention of our young population, the creation of a community college, the development of jobs and the support for any projects that attract young, talented people to come to / stay within our community. Art, music, entertainment and "creative class" industry jobs are critical in this town to maintain a vibrant and healthy community that will sustain itself for years to come. We encourage anyone and everyone with ideas and suggestions to submit them to this publication, and look forward to a positive debate on making them come true. Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions, or would like to submit articles. Peace and chicken grease, Lobster X |
